Summer Institute Levels

LEVEL I: Intro to Hospitality
(Lecture/Lab, Knowledge/Skill Focus, Site Visit)

  • The Engineering & Maintenance Division
  • The Security Division
  • The Marketing & Sales Division

  • The Accounting Division

Level I will provide an overview of the lodging industry, the main departments and the hotel, and career opportunities. You will learn how the various departments work together through lectures and property tours. It is also a great opportunity for workforce development professionals and school counselors to learn more about one of the largest and most diverse industries in the world.

LEVEL II*: Rooms Division
(Lecture/Lab, Application Focus, Site Visit)

Level 2 will provide an in depth look at the departments that are part of the rooms division. You will learn how each department functions with a focus on the math that is used. You will job shadow in the various departments as well as work the night audit at a hotel. The areas covered in Level 2 match the areas in the Lodging Management Program Year 1 text.

LEVEL III*: Leadership, Sales & Marketing and Food & Beverage
(Lecture/Lab, Application Focus, Site Visit)

Level 3 will provide an in depth look at the departments that are part of Sales & Marketing and Food & Beverage as well as Leadership and Communication Skills. You will learn how each department functions with a focus on the math that is used. You will job shadow in the various departments as well as prepare a Marketing Plan. The areas covered in Level 3 match the areas in the Lodging Management Program Year 2 text.
